In 2018 the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) added an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) program at Riley County Police Department (RCPD). Upon selection for the UAS team, members complete advanced certification training to receive proper licensing for flying operations.
Specialty instances which would activate the ERU UAS team include but are not limited to:
- Situational Awareness
- Active Violence Situations
- Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Surveillance
- Perimeter Security
- Investigative Support
- Tactical Team Support
- Hostage Negotiation/Rescue
- Bomb Team Support
- Hazardous Materials Response Teams (HMRT) Support
- Public Relations Missions
To qualify for the UAS team, you must have 2 years service as a member of the Riley County Police Department. This career development is open to both sworn and non-sworn employees.
