The Law Board by virtue of its authority has vested in the Department the responsibility to provide security for the courts of the Riley County District Court. The Riley County Police Department has sole responsibility for this endeavor. Violence or a threat of violence, in the courtroom has a profoundly negative impact on the court’s functioning and the primary duty of the Court Security Officer (CSO) is to provide the safety of the courthouse and the safety of persons therein. The CSOs first priority is to the court house property. However, as time allows, the CSO also patrols neighboring buildings and offices to the Courthouse Complex.
This temporary position requires a minimum length of 2 years employment and CSOs must possess the ability to interact with the public and courthouse employees on a regular basis.
