History of Honor Guards

The concept of honor guards dates back centuries, with roots in military traditions. Initially formed to protect dignitaries and ensure their safety, honor guards evolved to embody respect and ceremonial excellence. Law enforcement agencies across the United States adopted these traditions to honor their own, with the first police honor guards emerging in the mid-20th century.

Request the Honor Guard

To assist the Riley County Police Department Honor Guard in serving your needs, please complete the form below as part of any request for the posting of the colors for a local event of conference.  RCPD attempts to accommodate most requests that support the mission of the Department and appreciates you patience during the review and approval process.  As a general guideline we request at lease 21 days advanced notice of any event.

RCPD Honor Guard can complete posting of the colors at the start of a conference/event but does not offer services to retire the colors at the closing of a conference.  A fee of $100 is charged for this service to cover personnel costs, as the presentation requires a minimum of three officers and two hours to complete. This time includes changing into the Honor Guard uniform, day-of rehearsal, on site coordination, the formal posting of the colors, and travel to and from the event.

Payment Process:

  • RCPD will invoice the requester for the service.
  • Payment must be made in advance of the event.
