News Releases Posted on July 03, 2024

After over thirty-nine years of dedicated service to the Riley County community and the law enforcement profession, AD Moldrup is concluding his distinguished career.

AD Moldrup began his tenure with RCPD in March 1985. Throughout his service, he has worked in both patrol and investigations, and has held positions as the Public Information Officer and Internal Affairs Officer. His exemplary leadership saw him promoted to sergeant in 1995 and lieutenant in 2000. By May 2009, AD Moldrup had achieved the rank of captain, overseeing both the Support and Corrections Divisions. On June 25, 2018, he was appointed as the Interim Assistant Director and in January 2020, he formally took on the role of Assistant Director. In February 2022, he served as the Interim Director before resuming his duties as Assistant Director on January 1, 2023.

Throughout his career, AD Moldrup has been recognized with numerous accolades, including a Director’s Commendation, the Little Apple Optimist Club Award, nominations for Officer and Supervisor of the Year, a Life Saving Award, and the Meritorious Service Award.

AD Moldrup’s leadership has been pivotal for RCPD, guiding the department through significant milestones such as the implementation of succession planning, the adoption of evidence-based policing policies, multiple CALEA assessments, and navigating numerous critical incidents. Director Brian Peete remarked, "AD Moldrup has served RCPD and this community with distinction, never hesitating to go or do whatever was needed. Kurt is a consummate professional who exemplifies leadership. He has been practicing community-led and 21st-century policing concepts long before they became widely recognized. He led RCPD through some of the most challenging times, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd, and an era of record-low hiring and diminished public trust in law enforcement. His uncompromising integrity, honor, and ethics were the cornerstones that ensured this department enjoyed broad community support while many others struggled."

AD Moldrup is deeply embedded in the Manhattan and Riley County communities, with involvement in K-State, Fort Riley, and numerous non-profit and faith-based organizations. He and his wife Sue have eleven children, who have supported his commitment to service. "First responders make significant sacrifices for their families and communities. Kurt has given so much, and his family has shared him with us. Because of his dedication, countless lives have been changed for the better," noted Director Peete.

AD Moldrup's most enduring legacy is the culture of service and professionalism he instilled in each RCPD employee. "Without integrity, there is no foundation to build on. Kurt epitomizes what law enforcement should be and how we should respond to and treat those we serve. He set high standards, mentored, and elevated many people to new heights they may never have thought possible. Through personal connections and fatherly guidance, he has ensured that the professional and approachable manner in which we serve is forever embedded in RCPD as the norm, not the exception," said Director Peete.

RCPD has tentatively scheduled Assistant Director Moldrup's retirement reception for December 27, 2024.

We hope you will join us in celebrating his remarkable career and wishing him the best in his retirement.
