When officers arrived on scene, they found a 23-year-old Manhattan man with a gunshot wound to the neck. He was transported to Via Christi and later to Stormont Vail in Topeka for further treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries.
Further investigation has led us to believe this was an isolated incident between two separate, but associated parties. At this point in time, we are working to identify all individuals involved in the shooting.
Witnesses in the area have told us at least one male suspect ran away from the scene following the shooting heading eastbound. Anyone in the Sunset Zoo area that may have camera footage or witnessed anything suspicious around this time last night can reach out to us at (785) 537-2112 or Crime Stoppers at (785) 539-7777.
We have no reason to believe there is any threat to the Zoo, Manhattan High School, or the community.
This is an ongoing investigation; we will release additional information when it becomes available.
