Effective Thursday, July 1, 2021, the Riley County Police Department will expand its fingerprinting services to accommodate general licensing applications.

RCPD will now provide fingerprinting services for applications (i.e. teacher, daycare, adoption, nursing, insurance, etc.). Fingerprints will be available on a walk-in basis only, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the front lobby of the Riley County Police Department located at 1001 S. Seth Child Rd. in Manhattan.

An Alabama man has been arrested in connection to a shooting in Manhattan on June 22, 2021.

Officers responded to a 911 call for an individual with gunshot wounds in the 400 block of S. Juliette Ave. in Manhattan on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, shortly before 3:00 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a 38-year-old female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported from the scene to Via Christi in critical condition.

Today, the Law Board approved the Riley County Police Department Budget for the upcoming year.

The approved budget is $22.98 million. This is an increase of 3.57% over the 2021 budget.

The Riley County Police Department (RCPD) and the Manhattan-Riley County Coalition for Equal Justice (CEJ) have united to establish the Fair and Impartial Policing (FIP) Working Group. The objective of the FIP Working Group is to maintain a collaborative and mutually respectful relationship between RCPD and CEJ in an effort to implement positive changes within RCPD. The group will submit recommendations to the Director of the RCPD concerning the advancement of fair and impartial policing practices for which the group is named.

During the Click It or Ticket Campaign from May 21 - 31, the Riley County Police Department conducted overtime saturation patrols to aggressively enforce Kansas occupant restraint, texting, impaired driving, and other traffic laws.  During the campaign, officers wrote 155 safety belt citations, one child restraint citations, zero speeding citations, two texting while driving citations, and 11 other citations and arrests, including one DUI arrests. 173 vehicle stops were made during the campaign.

June 4, 2021

Aaron Zachry, 31, of Junction City was arrested late Wednesday afternoon on three additional counts of sexual exploitation of a child while still confined in the Riley County Jail. These charges came after further information was collected during the ongoing investigation into Zachry. The circumstances behind these additional charges are believed to have occurred on March 13, 2021, at a residence in Manhattan. 

June 3, 2021

The 24-year-old man whose body was recovered from Tuttle Creek Lake on Wednesday has been identified as Okheem Riley of Manhattan. 

On June 2, 2021, around 2:24 p.m., the Riley County Police Department Dispatch Center received a call from a citizen reporting a vehicle and clothes near a shoreline by the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Shady Lane in Riley County. 

When emergency crews responded they located identifying information for Riley but were unable to locate him.
