During the Click It or Ticket Campaign from May 21 - 31, the Riley County Police Department conducted overtime saturation patrols to aggressively enforce Kansas occupant restraint, texting, impaired driving, and other traffic laws. During the campaign, officers wrote 155 safety belt citations, one child restraint citations, zero speeding citations, two texting while driving citations, and 11 other citations and arrests, including one DUI arrests. 173 vehicle stops were made during the campaign.
This Click It or Ticket enforcement was supported by a grant with the Kansas Department of Transportation. Kansas’ overall adult seat belt compliance rate is 85% and ranges, by county, from 62% to 97%. Almost two-thirds of Kansas’ fatality crashes occur on rural roadways while these roads account for only one-third of all crashes.
