October 25, 2020

On Saturday, October 24, 2020 the Riley County Police Department in coordination with the Drug Enforcement Administration hosted a drug take-back event at Wal-Mart and the Westloop Dillons in Manhattan. 

The take-back event was a success at both locations. In just four hours, approximately 129.5 pounds of unused or unwanted prescription medications were collected.

October 21, 2020

A Riley County Police Department Corrections Officer has been arrested after a reported domestic battery.

On Monday, October 19, 2020 at approximately 5:03 p.m., a 28-year old female reported a known 33-year-old male battered her.

Ace Thompson, 33, of Manhattan was arrested today on offenses of domestic battery and criminal restraint. Thompson was issued a total bond of $1,500.00. Thompson posted bond and is no longer confined in the Riley County jail.

October 12, 2020

The Riley County Police Department welcomes Aaron Wintermote as the new Public Information Officer. Wintermote comes to RCPD from USA Softball in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he spent six months as a Communications Intern. He also spent close to two years working in the K-State Athletics Communications office as a Student Assistant and the Women's Golf Team media contact. Wintermote received a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mass Communications with an emphasis in Advertising from Kansas State University on December 14, 2019.

October 9, 2020

 

MANHATTAN, KAN. – On Friday, October 9, 2020 at approximately 5:23 pm, the Riley County Police Department Communications Center received a report of shots fired in the 700 block of Allison Ave in Manhattan. When officers and Riley County EMS arrived on scene, they found two adult male victims with apparent gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced deceased on scene.

The victims were identified as Skylar Havens, 19, and Javon Gray, 23, both of Manhattan, and they were known to the suspect.

October 2, 2020

A Manhattan man is in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting in the 4600 block of Freeman Road in Manhattan. On Thursday, October 1, 2020, at approximately 7:48 p.m., the Riley County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a man stating a family member discharged a firearm and was threatening to shoot the caller. Officers arrived on scene and determined the man was experiencing a mental health crisis. A Mental Health Co-Responder was requested to respond and arrived around 9 p.m.
