The following summary of calls for service/reports filed by the Riley County Police Department is a portion of those received by police.  Some names, addresses, and case details are withheld to follow local, state, and federal law as well as in an attempt to protect community members from being victimized further.  Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

July 18, 2019

On Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at approximately 9:10 p.m., the Riley County Emergency Dispatch Center began receiving several calls reporting shots fired in the 2500 block of Farm Bureau Road.

When officers arrived on scene, they attempted to make contact with a 35-year-old male inside a residence where the shots were reportedly coming from.

As a precaution, people in the area were advised to shelter in place or evacuate depending on their proximity to the home.

July 9, 2019

If you like to help people, this one is for you! Be aware there is a woman going by the name of Naomi Scott saying she is moving from New York to Manhattan while pregnant and needs help getting appliances. She sends a cashiers check to you for several thousand dollars — saying you can keep $200 for your efforts, but you have to send the rest back in a Western Union.

It takes a couple of days but the check bounces — leaving you out of thousands.

July 8, 2019

The Riley County Police Department and emergency personnel from the Manhattan Fire Department, Riley County EMS, and other law enforcement agencies will be participating in a joint active violence training exercise taking place over 3 consecutive days in July. This training will focus on streamlining interagency cooperation during crisis situations.

July 6, 2019

On Friday, July 5, 2019 at approximately 9:45 a.m., the Riley County Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a call of a reported assault occurring in a vehicle in the parking lot in the 1000 block of Westloop.

Jose Rivera, 26, of Manhattan was arrested in connection on offenses of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault and aggravated robbery. Rivera was issued a total bond of $150,000.00 causing him to remain confined in the Riley County Jail.

MANHATTAN, KAN. – On Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at approximately 10:05 p.m., the Riley County Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call of an in-progress assault in Manhattan.
