January 30, 2019

On Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at approximately 9:50 a.m., the Riley County Police Department Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting an armed robbery in the 1000 block of N 3rd St at Dairy Queen in Manhattan. 

Suspect was described as unknown race male  approximately 5’8” and 150 lbs wearing a grey hoodie, black pants, and black gloves carrying a tan Dillons grocery bag. 

The suspect fled the scene westbound. There were no injuries. This is an active investigation and officers are still on scene.

On Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at approximately 3:50 p.m., the Riley County Police Department Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a robbery in the 2000 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd at United Bank and Trust in Manhattan.

January 26, 2019

Officers responded to the report of an injury accident near the 1000 block of Westloop Pl on January 26, 2019, at approximately 6:50 AM.  When officers arrived on scene they found a 2004 Dodge Neon driven by Justin Pate, 22, of Manhattan had struck a pedestrian, Curt Billinger, 47, of Manhattan.  Billinger was transported to Via Christi for treatment of his injuries.  The accident investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time. 

January 22, 2019

Officers responded to a report of an unattended death in the 100 block of Manhattan Town Center Plaza in Manhattan on January 22, 2019, at approximately 10:36 AM. Officers listed Justin Downie, 46, of Topeka as the victim. It is not believed to be suspicious at this time.

UPDATE:

Tuttle Creek Blvd is back open. 

Highway 177 remains open but is down to one lane with traffic moving slowly through the area.

K-18 has been reopened as of January 22, 2019, at 4:00 PM.

January 8, 2019

On Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at approximately 8:45 p.m., the Riley County Police Department Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting an armed robbery in the 500 block of Leavenworth street at Fifths Liquor in Manhattan.

Stephen Cortez, 21, of Manhattan was arrested in connection in the 800 block of Osage in Manhattan on Friday, January 11, 2019 at approximately 3:35 p.m. Cortez was arrested on the offense of Aggravated Robbery. Cortez was issued a total bond of $50,000.00. Cortez is confined at the Riley County Jail.
