MANHATTAN, KAN. – On Saturday, March 5, 2016, the Riley County Police Department will establish and maintain a Command Post at the Manhattan City Park Pavilion in regards to the annual Fake Patty’s Day celebration. This Command Post as well as the Public Information Officer for the Riley County Police Department will host periodic news briefings or press conferences throughout the day.

These briefings are open to members of the press and will be held at 2:00 PM, 5:00 PM, and 8:00 PM. Those who wish to attend will need valid credentials in order to gain access to the Command Post. Limited and temporary parking will be available for members of the press. Parking space is not intended for long term or all day parking. The Law Enforcement Command Post is not open to the public. 

Interviews, media tours, and live broadcasts can be scheduled through the Public Information Officer prior to March 5, 2016 

The Riley County Police Department will also be active on Twitter throughout the day and the week prior to Fake Patty’s Day. RCPD encourages patrons of this fake holiday to follow them for updates. Due to increased web and mobile traffic these services may be interrupted. 

RCPD would like to remind those attending the event to celebrate responsibly and to not drink past a safe limit or get behind the wheel after becoming intoxicated. Officers will be out in significant numbers attempting to reduce crime as well as improve the quality of life for the community members of Manhattan and will be looking for signs of impairment.
