Beginning on November 5, 2014, the Riley County Police Department will take another step in the process of evaluating body-worn cameras for their patrol officers, as 11 officers spanning three patrol shifts will be seen with this extra tool attached to eyewear, hats, helmets, or a halo style mount.

RCPD began researching body-worn cameras in 2013 as a way to update the department’s technology in an effort to better improve the quality of life and reduce crime in the Manhattan and Riley County areas.

October 8, 2014

The Riley County Police Department was notified of a strong arm robbery at approximately 7:50 PM on October 8, 2014. This robbery, which did not include any weapons, occurred sometime after 7:00 PM in the 700 block of Bertrand (South Alley) in Manhattan.

The victim, a 21-year-old female, was approached by 3 unidentified males who demanded that she give them US currency. She was battered during this incident and received minor injuries. Her information has been withheld due to the nature of this crime and the current status of the suspects involved.

October 8, 2014

The Riley County Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance after an incident involving subjects who were thought to be armed. This incident occurred in the 1200 block of Kearney Street on October 8, 2014 at approximately 1:00 AM.

The victim, a 25-year-old male was reportedly approached by two unidentified males and forced to drive them to an ATM. They demanded that the victim give them money or face physical injury.

On Friday September 26, 2014, the Riley County Police Department conducted a MIP/MIC Saturation Patrol.  Officers involved in the Saturation Patrol were enforcing alcohol laws related to underage drinking and taking appropriate enforcement action.
