The Riley County Police Department is nationally accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). One measure of a police department’s success in meeting these professional standards is through inviting the public to comment about the agency. On August 31, 2012 the Riley County Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol will be conducting a check lane in the city of Manhattan to seek out and apprehend impaired drivers. The check lane will take place from 11:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m on September 1, 2012. The lane will be supported by the Breath Alcohol Testing Unit from the Kansas Highway Patrol. There will be 16 law enforcement officers participating in the check lane.
