On Friday April 19, 2013 officers from the Riley County Police Department were dispatched to the 6000 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd. for an injury accident involving two vehicles. Through their preliminary investigation officers were able to determine that a car operated by fifty-one year old Carol Douglas of Manhattan drifted over the center line where it collided with a vehicle driven by thirty-seven year old Jason Ellis of Manhattan. During the week of March 17, 2013, Riley County Police Department attended a conference presented by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in Charleston, South Carolina. On 02-16-2013 at about 0452 AM two armed men entered the Hilton Garden Inn located at 410 S 3rd St, Manhattan, KS and demanded money from a clerk. There were no reported injuries. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
Suspect #1 was wearing the following:
A dark grey sweatshirt with a picture of a tiger on the front (possibly with a hood). The tiger emblem could possibly be “Mike the Tiger” from LSU.Dark grey sweatshirt could be the style of the sweatshirt

January 5, 2013

On January 5, 2013 at approximately 0650 hours officers from the Riley County Police Department responded to an accident in the 5900 block of Anderson Avenue. Upon arrival the officers learned that a 1991 Oldsmobile 4 door passenger car being driven by 18 year old Jacob Brazzle of Manhattan, KS was traveling eastbound when it struck 71 year old Carl Schurle also of Manhattan, KS. Schurle was 
walking eastbound in the southbound lane of traffic when struck by the vehicle. Schurle was pronounced dead on scene. The accident investigation is still on-going at this time.

Effective 12-20-2012 at 07:00 AM, the RCPD has entered into an emergency traffic accident response and reporting phase due to weather conditions.
Until further notice the RCPD will not respond to traffic accidents unless they involve road blockage or injuries. Additionally the RCPD will not take reports on most accidents during this time.
Drivers involved in accidents are advised to:
  • Remove yourself and your vehicle from the roadway
  • Exchange information with the other driver(s)
