On Friday October 5th, 2012 the Riley County Police Department will conduct a DUI Saturation Patrol. Officers involved in the Saturation Patrol will be looking for signs of impaired driving and other traffic violations.
Motorists who show signs of alcohol and/or drug consumption will be evaluated and appropriate enforcement action will be taken.

Due to a rockslide along the west side of Tuttle Creek Blvd at the intersection of Casement Road, all southbound traffic at this intersection is being diverted. Northbound traffic can proceed as usual but southbound traffic on Tuttle Creek Blvd. is being diverted east onto Casement Road. Drivers should expect delays and would be best served to avoid the intersection. This closure began at approx. 0430 and will continue indefinitely.

On 09-16-2012 at about 10:00 PM a 34 year old male walked into the Mercy Regional Health Center with a significant cut to his mouth. Follow up investigation revealed that the male had been involved in at least one physical altercation at Bobby T’s, 3240 Kimball Ave, MHK on 09-16-2012 at 0210 hours. The male later awoke in a pool of blood in the laundry room of 3120 Heritage Lane and walked home.

On August 31, 2012 at approximately 11:00 p.m. and into the early morning hours of September 1, 2012 officers from the Riley County Police Department, Kansas Highway Patrol and the Kansas State University Police Department conducted a DUI check lane in the 2000 Block of Kimball avenue in Manhattan.

On August 31, 2012 the Riley County Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol will be conducting a check lane in the city of Manhattan to seek out and apprehend impaired drivers. The check lane will take place from 11:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m on September 1, 2012. The lane will be supported by the Breath Alcohol Testing Unit from the Kansas Highway Patrol. There will be 16 law enforcement officers participating in the check lane.

Each year the Kansas Sheriffs Association awards $10,000 worth of educational scholarships to eligible members or family members. The eight members Scholarship Committee, chaired by Osborne County Sheriff Curtis Miner, receive the written applications and conducts interviews with all applicants. Each year eight $1,000 awards are issued and one $2,000 Sheriff Matt Samuels Award.

On 06-14-2012 at 2125 hours, a strong-arm robbery was reported at 2101 Sloan. 48 year old Teresa White reported that she was pushed down from behind as she entered her residence and her purse was forcibly taken.
The suspect was described as:
A black male
Close cropped hair
about 5'07" and 200 lbs
Black shirt with horizontal white stripes
Suspect fled the area on foot in an unknown direction.

On 06-08-2012 at about 11:45 pm an armed robbery of a Pizza Hut Delivery driver took place at 1729 Ranser Road, MHK.
22 year old Pizza Hut deliveryman Brian Johnson II was attempting to make a delivery at 1729 Ranser Road, MHK when a white male approached him and demanded money and merchandise while holding a knife. Mr. Johnson complied and the suspect left the area in a newer, white, 4dr passenger car.
An undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise was taken. Mr. Johnson was not injured.
